This article concludes that the U.S. response to COVID-19 was hampered by politics; the decentralization of the U.S. political system and the “fee for service” approach of the U.S. healthcare system. However, the technological prowess of U.S.-based pharmaceutical companies resulted in the development of effective mRNA vaccines in record time.
