This is the first Italian translation of a pioneering article published in “The Alpine Journal” in 1918. In the text, the Author reflects on the intensity with which many mountaineers live their passion for the peaks in a tone that is half light–hearted and half deferential. In particular, he discusses their sectarianism, their ethical and aesthetic tension, their aspiration to overcome the modern split between the good and the beautiful by immersing themselves into mountain wilderness, and the variety and power of the emotions aroused by the peaks in the hearts and minds of their modern worshipers.

Questa è la traduzione italiana di un articolo pionieristico pubblicato su “The Alpine Journal” nel 1918. Nel testo si ragiona con un tono per metà scanzonato e per metà ammirato dell’intensità con cui molti alpinisti vivono la loro passione per la montagna. L’Autore ne esamina, in particolare, il settarismo, la tensione etica ed estetica, l’aspirazione a superare la scissione moderna tra buono e bello immergendosi nella natura selvaggia, la varietà e la potenza delle emozioni suscitate dalle vette nel cuore e nella mente dei loro adoratori moderni.
