Aims and scope.
Editorial policies.
Peer Review Process. The peer review process can be broadly summarized into 10 steps, although these steps can vary slightly between journals. Explore what’s involved below. 1. Submission of paper The corresponding or submitting author submits the paper to the journal using the journal’s online submission system. 2. Editorial Office assessment The Editorial Office checks that the paper adheres to the requirements described in the journal’s Author Guidelines. The quality of the paper is not assessed at this point. 3. Appraisal by the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) The EIC assesses the paper, considering its scope, originality, and merits. The EIC may reject the paper at this stage. 4. EIC assigns an Associate Editor (AE) Some journals have Associate Editors (or equivalent) who handle peer review. If they do, they are assigned at this stage and are referred to as the “handling editor.” 5. Invitation to reviewers The handling editor invites potential reviewers, sending additional invitations as needed until the required number—usually two, though this may vary by journal—is secured. 6. Response to invitations Potential reviewers assess the invitation based on their expertise, conflicts of interest, and availability, then accept or decline. If declining, they may suggest alternative reviewers. 7. The review is conducted The reviewer dedicates time to read the paper multiple times. The first read forms an initial impression; if major issues are found, they may reject the paper at this stage. Otherwise, they take detailed notes during subsequent readings to prepare a point-by-point review, which is submitted along with their recommendation (revise, accept, or reject). 8. The journal evaluates the reviews The handling editor considers all the returned reviews before making a decision. If the reviews differ widely, the editor may invite an additional reviewer for another opinion before deciding. 9. The decision is communicated The editor sends a decision email to the author, including any relevant reviewer comments. Comments will be anonymous if the journal follows a single-anonymous or double-anonymous peer review model. Journals that follow open or transparent peer review models will share the identities of the reviewers with the author(s). 10. Next steps If accepted, the paper is sent to production. If the article is rejected or sent back for either major or minor revision, the handling editor should include constructive comments from reviewers to help the author improve the article. At this point, reviewers should also be sent an email or letter letting them know the outcome of their review. If the paper was sent back for revision, the reviewers should expect to receive a new version, unless they have opted out of further participation. However, where only minor changes were requested, this follow-up review might be done by the handling editor.
Policies on Conflict of Interest. A Declaration of Conflicting Interests policy refers to a formal policy a journal may have to require a conflict of interest statement or conflict of interest disclosure from a submitting or publishing author.‘Conflicts of interest arise when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that are not fully apparent and that may influence their judgments on what is published. They have been described as those which, when revealed later, would make a reasonable reader feel misled or deceived.’
Human and Animal rights. All research must have been carried out within an appropriate ethical framework. If there is suspicion that work has not taken place within an appropriate ethical framework, Editors will follow may reject the manuscript, and/or contact the author(s)’ ethics committee. On rare occasions, if the Editor has serious concerns about the ethics of a study, the manuscript may be rejected on ethical grounds, even if approval from an ethics committee has been obtained. 1. Articles conducting any animal or clinical studies should contain a statement in accordance with the animal and human ethics committee. 2. Research should be carried out in a manner that animals do not get affected unnecessarily. 3. Registration is required for all clinical trials.
Informed Consent. In the Prevention and Research, patients have a right to privacy that should not be violated without informed consent. Identifying information, including names, initials, or hospital numbers, should not be published in written descriptions, photographs, or pedigrees unless the information is essential for scientific purposes and the patient (or parent or guardian) gives written informed consent for publication. Informed consent for this purpose requires that an identifiable patient be shown the manuscript to be published. Authors should disclose to these patients whether any potential identifiable material might be available via the Internet as well as in print after publication. Patient consent should be written and archived either with the journal, the authors, or both, as dictated by local regulations or laws. Nonessential identifying details should be omitted. Informed consent should be obtained if there is any doubt that anonymity can be maintained. For example, masking the eye region in photographs of patients is inadequate protection of anonymity. If identifying characteristics are altered to protect anonymity, such as in genetic pedigrees, authors should provide assurance, and editors should so note, that such alterations do not distort scientific meaning. When informed consent has been obtained, it should be indicated in the published article.
Data sharing policy. 1. Encourages data sharing. The journal encourages authors to share their research data in a related public repository and include a data accessibility statement in their manuscript. Authors are encouraged to follow the data citation principles. It’s essential to ensure data sharing complies with privacy, legal, and ethical considerations. For any queries, authors can contact the journal’s editorial office. 2. Expects data sharing. The journal supports and encourages authors to share their research data in relevant public repositories and include a data accessibility statement indicating data availability in their article. Authors must adhere to data citation principles. In cases where privacy, legal, or ethical concerns arise, authors should contact the journal’s editorial office for potential exceptions. 3. Requires data sharing. As a condition of publication, authors must share their data in a relevant public data repository. Please ensure that the manuscript contains a statement regarding data accessibility. Authors must adhere to data citation principles. Authors are requested to ensure that any data sharing adheres to privacy, legal, and ethical considerations. In case of any queries, please direct them to the journal’s editorial office during article submission.
Advertising policy. The advertising policy specifies the rules for publishing advertisements in accordance with the thematic scope of scientific journals. Advertisements are placed only on editorial pages in printed versions of journals and are not linked to scientific articles. On pages where scientific articles are located, publishing advertisements by external entities is prohibited. Each advertisement submitted for publication must be previously approved by the journal’s editorial team, ensuring compliance with current standards and the thematic profile of the journal.
