The phraseological investigation conducted from a cognitivist perspective (Croft and Cruse, 2004) highlights the conceptual importance of metaphorical embodiment (Gibbs, 2006; Varela, 2017), considered as a fundamental feature of human linguistic expression. From an interlinguistic standpoint, this study aims to examine the possible convergences and divergences of the terms heart and core in phraseological contexts, analyzing their common etymological origin and their use in the so-called embodied metaphors, in which the source domain §§§§heart§§§§ (Baranyiné and Sipőcz, 2023) assumes relevance. Once defined the semantic and metaphorical aspects from a cognitivist viewpoint, the analysis will focus on the translation (into Italian, Spanish, and Romanian) of the phraseological units in which the terms recur, to identify the possible ambiguities and deviations affecting the process of interlinguistic transfer.
