This text analyzes the Aquilan vernacular found in the Leggenna de Santo Tomascio, a rhymed play from the 15th century, preserved in manuscript VE 349 at the National Central Library in Rome. This piece, written by an unknown Aquilan author, narrates the life of Saint Thomas Aquinas and illustrates how the tradition of the Laude spread among the Dominicans of L’Aquila. The linguistic analysis reveals a blend of Aquilan vulgar forms and elements of Tuscanization, highlighting a process of linguistic evolution. The study primarily examines phonetic and morphological aspects, without, however, excluding relevant lexical and syntactic features.
