Our study aims to explore the visual and cultural history of the Internet meme “Chad” and its impact on male self-perception after being transformed into an augmented reality facial filter. In this context, we seek to contribute to recent research analyzing how male ideals, particularly those related to the body, are influenced by online practices; in our case, through memetic representation, understood not merely as humorous images but as tangible objects embodying social norms tied to gender identities, with political implications. A facial filter inspired by a meme will be investigated as one of the tools through which masculinity, in both its traditional and emerging forms, can be expressed in digital media, within the broader discourse network known as the “manosphere.”
