This paper examines errors resulting from the literal translation of Italian idiomatic expressions containing motion verbs and body parts in the context of learning Italian as a second language (L2). Based on a case study of Italian idioms and their literal translations into German, five main categories and eleven subcategories of error were identified. From a phraseodidactic perspective targeting school–aged children (6–10 years) with German as L1 and Italian as L2, the study explores the use of images to visualize error and foster figurative competence, laying the groundwork for future digital resources in idiom instruction.
