The article analyses Incoming, a visual artwork by artist Richard Mosse that investigates the refugee crisis. The body and heat, the surface of the image, the infrared thermal camera with which the film is shot, and the concept of geopolitical and semiotic boundary: these are the theoretical objects from which the author opens up to a proposal of the idea of semiotic reframing. This act defines the change of meaning of a situation (Watzlawick et al. 1974), and makes it easier to come into contact with the symptomatic aspect of reality. The original narrative is re–signified through the mythologising aspect (Barthes 1957) of reframing in an attempt to semiotically translate the extrasemiotic element (Lotman 1985).
