This paper examines the relationship between the metaphoric/symbolic dimension and phraseology in the series of novels dedicated to the Police inspector Petra Delicado. To this end, the study will focus on explicit references to this dimension and analyse some significant fragments that feature a wide range of figurative language and phraseological units with a metaphorical meaning. These resources employed by the author can impact on the social representation of women and the elimination of various social stereotypes. Furthermore, in teaching Spanish to Italian speakers, these novels constitute a useful tool for addressing important topics and focusing on potential linguistic interferences in a highly meaningful context.
