The essay explores the Venetian presence in Crete between the 13th and 14th centuries, analysing historical sources and offering insights for further study. The Venetian domination, which began in 1204 and ended in 1669, aroused great interest in the academic field for its peculiarity. Despite the initial struggles of integration, the coexistence between Venetians and Cretans gave rise to a flourishing socio-cultural context. The essay analyses contemporary sources, such as notarial deeds and documents of the Duke of Candia, highlighting temporal gaps and the need for further research.
