Reading in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a form of care directed toward the newborn, the parents, and the healthcare staff. Poetry, fairy tales, and high-contrast images prove to be simple yet powerful tools for supporting well-being in such a delicate setting. Experiences in NICUs, supported by scientific evidence, show how shared reading can become a form of prevention and healing, helping parents to recognize the newborn as a complete human being.
