Professors teaching different disciplines at a university in Canada were invited to express their opinions on a questionnaire addressing the pedagogical and communicative roles of the body during class. This self-reflection exercise created an opportunity for professors to consider body language and its value in their teaching and in their students’ learning. This article offers some insights into the salience of body language during lectures, and it suggests that a modality other than speech can potentially promote better teaching and learning practices at the university level.
