Jerry Wekezer

Jerry W. Wekezer is currently a Professor Emeritus at the joint Florida A&M University – Florida State University (FAMU – FSU) College of Engineering. He earned all his degrees (B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.) from Gdansk University of Technology in Poland. After defending his Ph.D. dissertation he worked as an Assistant Professor at Gdansk University of Technology from 1974 until 1981. He worked as a Lecturer at the University of Basrah in Iraq from 1976 until 1982. In 1982 he moved to the United States, where he began working at the University of Southern California (as a Visiting Assistant Professor, 1982-85). He was hired by the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1985, where he worked in his academic ranks from an Associate Professor to a Professor and a Department Head until 1994. Dr. Wekezer moved from Alaska to Florida in 1994 where he became a Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department at FAMU – FSU College of Engineering in Tallahassee (1994-2004). He was recognized as a Distinguished University Professor in 2002. He worked as a Visiting Professor at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems at Mississippi State University in 2006. Dr. Wekezer was also selected twice as a Fellow by the Center for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES). As a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow he worked at the Institute of Vehicles, Department of Vehicles and Heavy Machinery, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland in 2000. Dr. Wekezer was invited twice by the Department of Sciences of Civil Engineering - University of Roma Tre (as a Fulbright Senior Research Specialist in 2007, and as a Visiting Professor in 2011). Dr. Wekezer holds Professional Engineering (P.E.) licenses in the states of Alaska and Florida, and is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
