The article examines the representation and regulation of female bodies within the social and legal transformations shaped by globalization. Starting from the principle of bodily autonomy, it addresses the persistence of tensions and contradictions in the effective recognition of reproductive rights. Particular attention is devoted to the fragility of abortion rights in Italy, understood as a paradigm of the broader challenges surrounding the full realization of reproductive freedom. In its concluding section, the discussion turns to surrogacy as a practice that destabilizes and redefines the traditional concept of motherhood, exposing the ethical, legal, and symbolic implications that emerge within a globalized reproductive order.
