This paper presents a preliminary investigation of lenition in the dialect of Campobasso, by merging the evidences of a dictionary investigation with a first sociophonetic investigation with four speakers of Campobasso of different age. It has so far only been analysed the voiceless obstruent /t/ preceded by an alveolar nasal, according to the acoustic features of duration, intensity and fundamental frequency. Results showed two different lenited forms, identified as a voicing voiceless [t̬] and a devoicing voiced [d̥]. The older speakers showed a greater tendency towards lenition and, at an acoustic level, both lenited articulations are clearly distinct from both the genuine voiceless and voiced sounds; stops with sonorizing lenition, in particular [t̬], even exhibit higher values of intensity and F0 compared to voiced stops. An important role is paid by the accent position: lenition tends to appear when the accent is post-poned to the target cluster, or when it is far from the considered cluster.
