Moving from German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk’s book, “The Taking Hand and the Giving side”, the essay describes these two main atti_tudes of the government vis a vis the citizens. The taking hand concerns not solely the tax systems but civil liberties as well. It is argued that eco_nomic liberties are the most affected. The Givin side concerns social rights, which unlike liberties imply substantial costs. These costs have to be bore by taxpayers and thus by citizens at large. The result is that the Taking Hand exceeds that Giving Side.
